Club Session 9:
Today, students took a quiz based on questions that could be asked at the district competition. Based on how students answered, I will create balanced teams making sure that each book is represented on the team. We reviewed the Battle of the Books Rules and Expectations as well.
Club Session 8:
During our session today, we did an author match activity to solidify that knowledge in our brains. Being able to include the author in the competition answers will give our team an extra point which could be the difference between the winner and the losers. We also reviewed the competition rules and expectations. Then, we had a practice battle, being sure to follow all the competition rules. Below is the BoB Rules document:

At our next meeting, January 27th, club members will be taking a quiz to determine teams for our school battle. Based on quiz results, students may not qualify to compete in the school battle or district battle if it is clear they did not read at least 7 books. Club members are more than welcome and encouraged to attend the district battle to cheer on their fellow club members, February 20th at Village East 3:30 - 5:00.

Club Session 7:
Today, we took a survey of the books we read so far, which was our favorite and which was our least favorite. We also further analyzed each text comparing and contrasting characters, settings, and events in each story. We review the expectations of reading 7 books. I reviewed how to borrow books from Overdrive (both District and Public Libraries). I also introduced that there will be a quiz to determine our groups for the final Battle of the Books Competitions. The quiz will take place on January 27th. Club members also selected books that would read over Winter Break. ONLY 4 SESSIONS LEFT!
Club Session 6:
For session 5, we analyzed each book that we have read so far by focusing on Characters, Setting, Problem, Events and Resolution. Next time we will compare books for similarities and, more importantly differences so that we can know how to answer the Battle Questions.
Below is the organizer we will be using to reflect on the books that we read.

Club Session 5:
Today, we worked in teams to review books and their story elements. With our teams we created a Tree Map of different stories and then compared the story elements of each story. We also had another practice Battle. Students were divided into 2 groups. Just like the real competition, students answered practice Battle question for points (3 pts. for the correct title, 1 pt. for correct author). By practicing a battle, we learned how important it is to make sure the team represents all of the books and that we may need to read books more than once to make sure we have the details down.

When students finish books, they may come to the library at any time over the next three weeks to get another book on the list.

Thank You National Life Group!National Life Group donated 3 copies of each book for our club. Students will be able to borrow these books throughout the club's duration. We are sharing these donated materials. The expectation is for the books to be returned in good condition for the other students in our club. If a book gets lost or ruined, the student responsible will need to pay for or replace the book.
